Lice treatment under scrutiny

Peligroso pediculicida bajo la lupa

PUNTA DEL ESTE, Uruguay, (IPS) Un grupo de expertos analizará los efectos en la salud humana de cuatro componentes químicos, incluido el pediculicida lindano, para evaluar su prohibición en el marco del Convenio de Estocolmo sobre Contaminantes Orgánicos Persistentes (COP).


Ésta fue una de las principales conclusiones de la Primera Conferencia de las Partes del Convenio destinado a prohibir o eliminar 12 COP, celebrada entre el lunes y este viernes en la sud oriental ciudad turística uruguaya de Punta del Este.
 

PUNTA DEL ESTE, Uruguay, (IPS) - A group of experts will study the effects on human health of four toxic chemicals, including the widely used lice treatment lindane, to consider their potential inclusion on a list of products banned under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

The creation of this study panel was among the final decisions adopted at the 1st Conference of Parties to the Stockholm Convention, which ended Friday in the Uruguayan resort town of Punta del Este.
